Cultural Weekend in Frankfurt: Part 2

The Preview of Hélio Oiticica in Palmengarten was followed by the opening of the autumnal season in the Opera House Frankfurt with the resumption of Verdi’s Opera “The Sicilian Vespers”. The opening of the autumn season in the opera is something special and always booked up. But this year there was strong opposition from the political front. That same evening, on the TV was the debate between Merkel and Steinbrueck. Luckily we live in the era of Internet and Youtube. You can watch everything later.

Cultural Weekend in Frankfurt: Part 1

Have I ever mentioned that I feel Frankfurt as my second home town additionally to my native city Tirana? I do always say: Frankfurt is love at third sight! Frankfurt is neither Munich or London, and even less Paris, but if you give the city a chance it will unfold its wide variety, and you will definitely take it into your heart.

In the last weekend of August, there were some stunning cultural events after the summer break. I took part in two of them.

Cool Shops

On the Facebook page of Style Nouveau, I promised to publicize a report from this weekend’s events  at the beginning of next week. Then I remembered that I had forgotten a post from my last stay in Italy. Starting from next weekend I will be on a journey again and the new impressions would overlay the old one.

So, I had forgotten to post pictures of some cool shops in Rimini and Parma. I know them since years already, but some of them present themselves always with a new livery.

Courtyards

I am very fond of courtyards. They have something romantic and mysterious at the same time. Entering them, I feel like a part of their stories and begin to dream. Sometimes, I discover the courtyards behind a nondescript facade, sometimes they are an oasis of calm in the bustle of a big city. A few years ago I started to take pictures of them.

Brand to Watch

Recently in Riccione – the first shopping destination on the Italian Adriatic Coast – I discovered those stilettos in a shop window.

Extravagance meets craftsmanship, creativity and elegance. Unfortunately, I spent only a few hours in Riccione and the store was closed in the afternoon (common in small Italian towns). So I could not find out more about those incredible shoes other than the brand nameMugnai“. Continue reading

On the Catwalk of Life

I do not like to celebrate my birthday. Somehow, I do not like this feeling of another year passing by. That is why I decided to put a gorgeous new dress on for simply indulging the beauty of life on my special August day.
As Diana Vreeland (1903-1989), the former Chief Editor of the American Vogue Magazine, said: “A new dress does not bring you anywhere, it’s the life you are living in the dress!”.

Summer Parties

The almost constant summer weather during the recent weeks in Frankfurt reminds me of my home country, only that the part of the Mediterranean has to take the river Main. No wonder that everybody takes every opportunity to celebrate summer parties. Birthdays are of course always a welcome opportunity for that. In the last weekends, I was invited at some very lovely celebrations of friends. Here are some pictures.

Firenze, Rimini, Parma – My Architectural Digest

A trip to Italy without numerous architectural and historical impressions is unthinkable. I visit some works of architecture every time I am there and capture them on my camera again and again. Some of them I discover for the first time. Here are a few personal photographic memories during my last trip in June.

Look at her, she has an Alaïa dress on!

Standing at the stairs of the NRW Forum in Dusseldorf, I heard from the Hofpark the echo of the voice of an excited young woman saying to her friend: “Look at her, she has a Alaïa dress on!” Yes, I was wearing indeed an Alaïa dress, in honor of the outstanding couturier Azzedine Alaïa, whose exhibition I was visiting.

Stile Italiano

“Put it before them briefly so they will read it, clearly so they will appreciate it, picturesquely so they will remember it, and, above all, accurately so they will be guided by its light.” – Joseph Pulitzer (Hungarian-American Publisher and Journalist)

Following the advice of Joseph Pulitzer, I’ll just let the pictures speak for themselves today.
