Ballet Dreams

Once upon a time there was a little girl called Jonela. She dreamt of becoming a ballerina and she danced wherever she had the chance to. Now, the girl is grown up and she still loves to dance. She did not become a ballerina but she attends any good ballet performance whenever she has the chance to. And when the curtain rises and the lights go down, she starts dreaming…..

On 13 October, I travelled to Munich for attending the ballet premiere “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” at the National Theatre, choreographed by the legendary John Neumeier. But there was another important reason for attending this ballet opening night. An exceptional talent from my native Albania, Marlon Dino, primo ballerino of the Bavarian State Ballet, played the parts of Theseus of Athens and Oberon, king of the fairies. At his side, Lucia Lacarra, a brilliant prima ballerina and at the same time his wife, dancing Hippolyta, the Amazon queen and Titania, queen of the fairies. It was a perfect dream. But, as ballet is like a silent movie I will just let the pictures speak for themselves.

The venerable Munich National Theatre has a long history. Destroyed by fire and bombs several times and rebuilt again and again, it is now one of the largest opera and ballet houses in the world.
