Cultural Weekend in Frankfurt: Part 2

The Preview of Hélio Oiticica in Palmengarten was followed by the opening of the autumnal season in the Opera House Frankfurt with the resumption of Verdi’s Opera “The Sicilian Vespers”. The opening of the autumn season in the opera is something special and always booked up. But this year there was strong opposition from the political front. That same evening, on the TV was the debate between Merkel and Steinbrueck. Luckily we live in the era of Internet and Youtube. You can watch everything later.

I am a big friend of opera and ballet since my childhood. My mother took me with her to all the performances at the Albanian State Opera. I carry on this tradition in the cities where I live, earlier in Munich or Berlin and in the last eleven years in Frankfurt. The Frankfurt Opera has given us in the recent years many exciting productions that can compete with the major opera houses from Vienna to Paris.

Here are two pictures of the opera performance on the 1st of September by courtesy of the Press Office of the Frankfurt Opera House. It was a very successful staging of this rarely performed Verdi opera. At that time, Verdi composed “The Sicilian Vespers” on behalf of the Paris Opéra house. The original version is in French (“Les vêpres siciliennes”).

I wore a lace dress by Ports 1961 and Pedro Garcia stilettos decorated with Swarovski crystals. On the shoulder part of the dress, I had attached 50s rhinestone earrings instead of a brooch.

Giuseppe Verdi was born in a small village near Parma. Every year in October, the Verdi Festival takes place at Teatro Regio di Parma. Maybe I can attend a performance there also this year. I will keep you posted.
